The Potomac Institute's International Center for Terrorism Studies held a seminar on Decmber 19, 2017 entitled,"Security Challenges in the Balkans: Quo Vadis?" According to official and academic assessments, the Balkans remain vulnerable to several security concerns, including Islamic terrorism, the refugee crisis, and economic stability. The purpose of this seminar was to review past lessons, consider future outlooks, and offer response strategies on national, regional, and global levels.

Opening remarks were given by Professor Don Wallace, Jr., Chairman of the International Law Institute. The panel was moderated by Professor Yonah Alexander, Director of the Inter-University Center for Terrorism Studies and Senior Fellow at the Potomac Institute for Policy Studies. The panel consisted of: Ambassador Pjer Simunovic, Ambassador of the Republic of Croatia to the United States; Ambassador Haris Lilacs, Ambassador of Greece to the United States; Ambassador Vasko Naumovski, Ambassador of the Republic of Macedonia to the United States; and Professor David Kanin, Adjunct Professor of European Studies at the School of Advanced International Studies at Johns Hopkins University and a former senior analyst for the Central Intelligence Agency. Closing remarks were given by General Alfred Gray, USMC (Ret.),Twenty-Ninth Commandant of the United States Marine Corps and Senior Fellow and Chairman of the Board of Regents at the Potomac Institute for Policy Studies.
