"Egypt-U.S. Strategic Partnership"

December 7, 2017

The November 24, 2017 massacre on defenseless worshipers in a Sinai mosque is another sober reminder that Egypt continues to confront terrorist groups that conduct deadly attacks on civilians as well as government, police, and military targets throughout the country. These security concerns also have significant international strategic implications. In the face of these challenges, a key element of combating terrorism at home and abroad is the decades-long Egyptian-U.S. partnership, including efforts on legislation, law enforcement, and countering violent extremism. In addition, Egypt continues to contribute to the work of the Global Counterterrorism Forum, the UN, and other bodies. An assessment of the past lessons and future outlook for Egypt-U.S. relations was offered by Ambassador Yasser Reda.

The Ambassador's Forum was moderated by Professor Yonah Alexander (Director, Inter-University Center for Terrorism Studies and Senior Fellow, Potomac Institute for Policy Studies) and featured Ambassador Yasser Reda (Ambassador of Egypt to the United States). Closing remarks were provided by Professor Don Wallace, Jr. (Chairman, International Law Institute).
