The Potomac Institute for Policy Studies hosted a special "Brown Bag" Lunch with Senior Fellow Hugh Montgomery, author of Bureaucratic Nirvana: Life in the Center of the Box (Potomac Institute Press, 2010), on Thursday, April 7. The Midwest Book Review has called Bureaucratic Nirvana, which is an insider's guide to navigating the Pentagon's Science and Technology bureaucracy, "fascinating and enlightening." Hugh Montgomery discussed the book and took questions from the audience. cyberchallenge2The Potomac Institute for Policy Studies'  third Cyber Challenge Symposium, entitled "Cyber Technology: Ethical, Legal and Social Impacts," featured a panel of experts including James Woolsey, former Director of Central Intelligence; Daniel Gallington, Esq., Senior Fellow and Member of the Board of Regents of the Potomac Institute for Policy Studies; and Joshua Gruenspecht of the Center for Democracy and Technology. The event was held March 30 at the Institute.  Click below for a video of the event. The International Center for Terrorism Studies of the Potomac Institute for Policy Studies presented a timely symposium: The New Middle East: Quo Vadis?  on Tuesday, February 8. Panelists addressed the eruption of political turmoil in the Middle East, as well as regional and international implications of the unrest.  The program was co-sponsored by the Inter-University Center for Terrorism Studies and  the Inter-University Center for Legal Studies, International Law Institute. Click below to watch a video of the event.


 
 
 
 

The Potomac Institute for Policy Studies presented a book talk on April 20 with Williamson Murray, PhD, Director of the Institute's History, Social and Strategic Ideas Program.  Dr. Murray discussed his book The Shaping of Grand Strategy: Policy, Diplomacy and War (Cambridge University Press, 2011).  The Cambridge University Press says, "Within a variety of historical contexts, The Shaping of Grand Strategy addresses the most important tasks states have confronted: namely, how to protect their citizens against the short-range as well as long-range dangers their polities confront in the present and may confront in the future."  Click below to watch a video of the April 20 book talk.



The Potomac Institute for Policy Studies presented the second seminar in a series addressing science, technology, and policy issues relative to cyber security, "Nanoscience, Neuroscience and Genetics: the Impact of Cyber Technology," on Thursday, February 17. Speakers included Prof. James Giordano, PhD, Center for Neurotechnology Studies, Potomac Institute for Policy Studies; and University of Oxford, UK: Nneka Mokwunye, PhD, Director, Center for Ethics, Washington Hospital Center; and Prof. Ashok Vaseashta, PhD, Norwich University Advanced Research Initiative.
