On January 26, the Potomac Institute for Policy Studies  presented the initial seminar in a series that will address science, technology, and policy issues relative to cyber security. The initial seminar, “Cyber Challenge: Informing the Debate” featured LtGen Robert Schmidle, Deputy Commander, US Cyber Command; Mr. Philip Reitinger, Deputy Under Secretary of National Protection & Programs directorate, Department of Homeland Security; and Ambassador David Smith (Ret.), Senior Fellow, Potomac Institute for Policy Studies.  The Potomac Institute for Policy Studies' International Center for Terrorism Studies' annual review seminar, "Terrorism: Review of 2010 and Outlook for 2011," was held on January 31 at the National Press Club and was carried live on C-SPAN. Speakers included Potomac Institute CEO Michael Swetnam, ICTS Director Prof. Yonah Alexander, Hon. Charles Allen, Ambassador D.  The Potomac Institute for Policy Studies' Center for Neurotechnology Studies presented an introductory symposium on ethical animal research entitled "Neuroscience and Non-Speciesist Neuroethics: Implications for Animal Welfare and the Responsible Conduct of Research," on February 4, 2011. The program was presented in conjunction with the Capital Consortium for Neuroscience: Ethical, Legal and Social Issues (CCNELSI, www.ccnelsi.com). Speakers included Rep. James P. Moran (D-VA-8), Co-Chair of the Congressional Animal Protection Caucus: Prof. James Giordano, PhD, Potomac Institute for Policy Studies; Cathy Liss, Animal Welfare Institute; Paul A. On January 19, the Potomac Institute for Policy Studies was pleased to present a lecture by Dr. Tawfik Hamid, the Institute's Chair for the Study of Islamic Radicalism, on "Reformation of Islam: The Challenge and the Future."  In his talk, Dr. Hamid discussed his view of the need for a reformation within Islam, as well as the challenges and obstacles to reform.
